Interactive comment on “Modelling contrasting responses of wetland productivity to changes in water table depth” by R. F. Grant et al

چکیده

Responses of wetland carbon cycling to environmental changes, particularly changes in water table depth, which are the key determinants to control the ecological and biogeochemical functions of wetlands, are highly non-linear and complex due to the dynamic interactions of several physical and biological processes. Several field experiments have found that wetland productivities have a significantly different response to changes in water table depth with respect to the position of water table at which the change occurred. Therefore, it is critical for an ecosystem model to capture this phenomenon in order to project well how the wetland carbon cycling would respond to the projected climate change. The authors presented the abilities of an ecosystem model ecosys to capture the contrasting responses of CO2 fluxes at Lost Creek, WI, to changes in temperature and water table depth. This model was evaluated by comparing the modelled carbon fluxes with the EC measured C fluxes with a detailed C2736

Interactive comment on “Primary production in forests and grasslands of China: contrasting environmental responses of light- and water-use efficiency models” by H. Wang et al

This paper concerns the simulation of (mostly) Net Primary Productivity for a sample of Chinese ecosystems. More importantly, however, it attempts to disentangle the impacts of changing light-use and water-use efficiency on the responses to environmental forcings. This is a promising idea, but the paper is unconvincing in it’s attempt to analyze and communicate how and why the models differ in ...

Interactive comment on “Seasonal Variability of Tropical Wetland CH4 emissions: the role of the methanogen-available carbon pool” by A. A. Bloom et al

CH4 column over the Amazon can occur some months prior to the peak in the water table (the measure used to characterise the ’wetland’). The parameterisation is then applied globally and used in the GEOS-CHEM atmospheric chemistry model. This work is highly relevant as many of the leading land surface models (e.g., the US Community Land Model (Riley et al., 2011), the Joint UK Land Environment S...

How Useful Are Early Economic Models?; Comment on “Problems and Promises of Health Technologies: The Role of Early Health Economic Modelling”

Early economic modelling has long been recommended to aid research and development (R&D;) decisions in medical innovation, although they are less frequently published and critically appraised. A review of 30 innovations by Grutters et al provides an opportunity to evaluate how early models are used in practice. The evidence of early models can be used to inform two types...

Interactive comment on “Simulating the effects of phosphorus limitation in the Mississippi and Atchafalaya River plumes” by A. Laurent et al

Below the reviewer’s comments were inserted. Responses are interspersed in italic font. Changes in the revised manuscript responding to these comments are highlighted in yellow. Comment: 1. If the focus of the model is to simulate P limitation where high productivity and hypoxia occur on the Louisiana-Texas shelf, the selection of boxes to demonstrate potential variability do not fit well with ...
